The 39-year old singer, Pop star Katy Perry said that she would be leaving “American Idol”, as a judge on the reality singing competition program. The program is aired on ABC. Perry revealed this on Monday night during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live". She said that the upcoming season of “Idol” would be her last. Perry said, "I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for 'Idol”. She has been on the program for seven years.
Perry said, "I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music". "It's going to be a very, very exciting year for all pop star girlies."
Perry has been one of the three judges on ABC's revival of the singing competition since March 2018. The other two are singers Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. She expressed that the other two judges did not officially know yet that she was leaving the show.
"Well, they'll find out tonight," Perry said. "I've been in the studio for a while so they figured something is up."
Although Perry didn't rule out a future return to the singing competition, she said, "creating space for my new wingspan". She told Kimmel," Maybe I'll come back if they have me one day,".
She also expressed her intentions that this September she would be performing at a major music festival, Rock in Rio in Brazil. Perry said, "It's really exciting".
Perry wrapped up a two-year Las Vegas concert residency in November. Famous for "California Gurls", she said that she was planning to be travelling and performing new music.
