The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is going to be the first all-electric pickup. It will be built at GM's Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck. The production will start production late next year. Orders can be placed in advance with starting price over $112,695. However, the consumers may have to ante up some serious cash.
GM's proprietary Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive will power the pickup. With GM’s proprietary EV drive units, the vehicle will have off-road capability. The four wheel drive 'supertruck' ability to "crab walk," a steering technology that allows the vehicle to move diagonally, both on road and off road. Suspension height can be raised 6 inches to negotiate extreme off-road situations. 35-inch-OD Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MT tires standard and can accommodate 37-inch tires. The extra strong and flexible tires can scale 18-inch verticals and drive through water deeper than two feet. For extreme off-roading conditions, the battery pack is protected by underbody armor of steel plates. Super Cruise capability with three years of service, UltraVision with High Definition Surround Vision, Digital Key, 35-inch-OD tires, Infinity Roof, power rear drop glass, and six-function MultiPro Tailgate are the standard equipment which will be available on all vehicles. Three separate motors generate 1,000 horsepower and an estimated 11,500 pound-feet of torque which afford the pickup to go from 0 to 60 in about 3 seconds.
The pickup is fitted with new front and rear underbody cameras with live “virtual spotter” views. With these cameras packaged to protect against damage and inbuilt wash functions to clear debris, drivers will be able to navigate obstacles and place wheels on and off the trail.
Fully charged pickup has an estimated range of 350 miles. The charging time is estimated to be around 30 to 40 minutes. Super Cruise technology offers hands-free driving for more than 200,000 miles of enabled roads. Following signaling protocols it offers a new automatic lane changing feature. With standard Infinity Roof and removable transparent Sky Panels one can enjoy open-air driving. The pickup has a large, 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and 12.3-inch-diagonal driver information center display.
The all electric vehicle is a good leap forward in vehicle technology.
